Year-round garlic flavor without all the fuss...what's not to love?  Garlic chives are a beautiful, simple to grow plant that will give you garlic flavor all year long.  Harvest the green tops and use as you would garlic in any dish. (Allium tuberosum)

Why We Love It

Here are some of the reasons why we love Garlic Chives...

1) DELICIOUS  - Simply cut the greens and chop up and use in your favorite dishes for a light oniony/garlic flavor.

2) BEAUTIFUL- Like many alliums, garlic chives make a beautiful flower head that attracts beneficial insects to your garden.

3) DETER PESTS - Garlic chives are thought to deter pests such as Japanese beetles, black spot on roses, scab on apples, and mildew on cucurbits, so plant them with your roses, apples, zucchini, pumpkins, and cucumbers.

How to Grow It

Here's how to grow garlic chives:

SUN FULL SUN
MOISTURE REGULAR GARDEN SOIL - WELL DRAINING
GROWING ZONES USDA 3-9  (Not sure? Find your growing zone here)
SIZE  12-15" TALL & WIDE
GROWING 50 days to maturity.  Start seed indoors 4 weeks before last frost date. Sprinkle seeds in good quality potting mix in a small pot or flat and cover with ¼’’ of additional soil. 7-14 days to germ.  Keep moist. Transplant once last frost has passed. Keep weeded as alliums hate competition.

How to Harvest & Use It

Cut back the garlic chives to a 2-inch height when the plants grow 6 inches tall. Continue to harvest monthly through the spring, summer and fall growing season.
